Farm - Sicily

Masseria Ciancio’ – Modica (Ragusa)

Cianciò is situated at the very bottom of Sicily, about 10 miles south of Modica and 4 miles from Pozzallo.

The choice of building materials and furnishings help maintain the original character of the 19th century farm. Carob, cactus and olive trees grow in the surrounding area which is riddled with ancient dry stone walls.
The large pebbled courtyard, the 'heart' of the farm, is surrounded by the farm house, cowsheds and warehouses once used to store carob, wheat and straw.
Newly and tastefully refurbished they now serve as spacious and comfortable en-suite guest rooms. There are four rooms/apartments offering a total of 15 beds. The surrounding country lanes invite you to take a pleasant and relaxing walk.

The area in which the houses of the zodiac are located is in a superbly four-sided place that goes from the church of Saint George to the UNESCO monument, from the church of Saint John to the terrace, where the beautiful landscape is formed by the church, the square of Saint Teresa and the ancient suburb.

I’ts all real and untouched yet: it needs to listen to the rhythm of the wee wee hours and the life of the “curtiglio” to appreciate the atmosphere of the ancient Sicily. The “curtiglio” and the alley, the courtyard and the horizontal corridor still exist, still they help, protect and legislate; in fact

Baglio Pollicarini – Pergusa (Enna)

In the seventeenth century the main building was a small convent of monks who dedicated their lives to a simple and rural way of living.

The water spring of St. Rosalie, located in the lowest part of the property and built by the monks, was used both to water their livestock and their crops. When the monks abandoned the convent, soldiers moved in and transformed it into a military garrison. At the main entrance you can still see the remains of the ’Garritta’ , a military sentry box. Towards the end of the ‘800’s the whole property was passed onto a noble family of Nicosia which used it as a summer and hunting residence. Today it has been restored scrupulously by the new owners and the country house has been preserved in almost every single detail.

There are single, double, triple and quadruple bedrooms that are also accessible to the handicapped. There are also rooms,  the ex- monk cells, that have frescos which date back to the early ‘800’s and the rooms  have all been furnished with simple and sober nineteenth century pieces
